How to cancel my subscription and/or get a refund

We're sorry that Opal did not work out for you, but we want to make sure it's easy for you to leave! Before you go, if you are experiencing any bugs or otherwise confusing behavior from Opal, please contact the Support team using the instructions here. We'll be happy to sort you out. Otherwise, how you cancel your free trial or subscription depends on how you signed up for the subscription.

If you signed up via the Opal mobile app, you can cancel your free trial or subscription directly on the App Store. Be sure to cancel 24 hours before the renewal charge, or you may be charged for the subscription due to how Apple processes subscriptions. If you signed up via Opal’s website, you can cancel your free trial or cancel your subscription by logging into your Stripe dashboard.

Please note: Uninstalling the Opal app from your device will NOT automatically cancel your subscription! Please follow the appropriate steps to avoid any unwanted charges.

Cancelling and Refunding an Apple subscription

Here's how to cancel your free trial or subscription if you signed up via Apple:

  • Open your iPhone "Settings"
  • Tap on your name
  • Tap "Subscriptions"
  • Tap "Opal"
  • Tap "Cancel My Subscription"

It may take up to a day for Apple to process cancellations, so it's necessary to cancel your free trial or subscription more than 24 hours before your renewal to avoid any unnecessary charges. Please note that Opal does not have control over subscription cancellations or have the ability to process refunds for subscriptions purchased via Apple. Cancellations and refunds are handled through Apple directly and can be requested using the instructions here.

Cancelling and Refunding a Web (Stripe) subscription

If you signed up for a free trial or purchased your Opal subscription via our website, your subscription is managed by Stripe. You will be unable to modify or cancel it from your iPhone settings. To cancel your subscription, you'll need to go to your Stripe dashboard here. Please note that Stripe is unable to issue refunds for subscriptions, so if you would like a refund, you will need to contact Opal's Support team directly to request a refund using the instructions here.  

If you do not recall the email that you used to sign up for your free trial or subscription via Stripe, you can find it by following these steps:

  • Open the Opal app
  • Tap on "Settings" (accessible from the top right corner of your "Profile" tab)
  • Tap on "Email"
  • Tap on "Copy" to copy that email to the clipboard
Please note: only the exact email you purchased your subscription with will gain you access to your Stripe dashboard. If you selected Sign in with Apple using the“Hide my email” option, you will need to use the private relay email provided by Apple. An example is outlined below.

Once you've obtained the email that you used to sign up for your free trial or subscription, you can cancel your subscription by following these steps:

  • Open the Stripe dashboard here
  • Input the exact email used to purchase the subscription and click "Send"
  • An email from Stripe should arrive in your inbox. Click on the link to verify.
  • Once you've accessed the Stripe dashboard, tap on "Cancel plan" to cancel your trial or active subscription

Cancelling your subscription after deleting the Opal app

If you've already deleted Opal and need to access your private relay account to cancel your subscription via Stripe, here's how to do so on your iPhone or iPad:

  • Open your device's "Settings" app
  • Tap your name
  • Tap "Sign-In & Security"
  • Tap "Sign in with Apple"
  • Tap "Opal"
  • Your Apple private relay email will be displayed under "This App Received"

Here's how to access your private relay email via the web:

  • Sign-in using your Apple ID here
  • Navigate to the "Security" section
  • Under "Sign-in with Apple", select "Manage Apps & websites"
  • Select "Manage"
  • Click "Opal"
  • The Sign in with Apple settings will be summarized in this window. You will see your Relay Email under "Hide My Email"

That's it!
