How to use Open Limit

Open Limit is a powerful blocking feature that keeps apps/websites you find distracted locked. It allows you to set the number of times per day you can open a apps and/or websites. Once that number has been reached, you will be locked out of entering those apps and/or websites until the next day. Open Limits work separately from your Sessions and Time Limits to give you an added layer of protection.

How do I add an Open Limit on the iOS app?

To add an Open Limit, take the following steps:

  • Open the Opal iOS app
  • Tap on the “Blocks” tab
  • Tap on the "+ New Block" icon
  • Tap on "Set Open Limit"
  • Select the apps/websites you'd like to create an Open Limit on
  • Tap "Save"

How do I customise my Open Limit?

Once you have clicked "Save" on the apps/websites you'd like subjected to an Open Limit, you may customise your Open Limit by clicking on the editing icons:

  • The name of your Open Limit
  • The "Apps Blocked"
  • "Opens Allowed"
  • The "For Up To" period of time you may unlock your apps/websites
  • "Reset allowed"
  • "On these days"

In the "Reset Allowed" level, you will have two protection level options available:

  • Yes, make it easy: You can reset the limit & start over from the Opal app
  • No way, I'm hardcore (available only on Opal Pro): You can't reset the limit. Wait until tomorrow. Get 1 emergency pass a week.

How do I unlock or edit my Open Limit?

There are two ways to unlock or edit your Open Limit. First up, you are welcome to open the app you want to unlock directly from your Home screen of your device. Just tap the“Use [app]” prompt from the shield screen. You may also unlock or edit your lock from within the Opal app. Here is how:

  • Open the Opal App
  • Tap on the “Blocks” tab
  • Toggle to your "Limits"
  • Select your active Open Limit
  • Wait for the waiting room to count down and tap "Continue"
  • If you want to "Unblock for ...," tap the corresponding button
  • If you want to "Edit," tap the button in the top right corner
  • If you're in a "No way, I'm hardcore" Open Limit and must exit, continue reading...

What if I need to access an app/website that’s locked via "No way, I'm hardcore" difficulty?

If you require emergency access to an app/website that is blocked, Opal has an Emergency Pass that you may use only once per week. Here's how to disable a "No way, I'm hardcore" Open Limit in the event of an emergency:

  • Open the Opal App
  • Tap on your "Settings" (accessible from the top right corner of your "Profile" tab)
  • Tap on "FAQs"
  • Tap on "Advanced Features"
  • Tap on "Use My Emergency Pass"
  • Tap "here" to use your Emergency Pass

Remember, canceling a "No way, I'm hardcore" Open Limit should be done sparingly and only in cases where it is necessary, as the Emergency Pass is only available once per week. Once that Open Limit has been canceled, navigate back to your Open Limit and edit away. Please be advised that if you've already used your Emergency Pass this week, our Support team is unable to force end the Open Limit for you. For that reason, we recommend only using your Emergency Pass in a true emergency.

What if I accidentally open an app?

If you accidentally click on an app with an Open Limit applied to it, the app/website will continue to be blocked, and it will not count towards your unlocks. From the shield screen, you will have the ability to intentionally unlock the app by clicking “Use [app]”. If you select it, this will count towards your daily unlock count.

Please note that if you're currently in an Open Limit with a blocked domain within the Block List, we disable Private Browsing so you are unable to bypass our restrictions and access the site(s) you've blocked via Private Browsing. Additionally, you will be unable to tap "Clear History and Website Data" while in those Sessions. This will occur regardless of if you have "Adult Blocking" toggled to the on or off position.

That's It! If You Have Any Issues With Your Open Limit, Please Follow The Steps Here To Troubleshoot.
