How can I use Screentime with Opal? (iOS 15 and prior)

This article only applies to the old version of Opal (on iOS 15 or prior). Here’s why you should upgrade to iOS 16 and experience the new Opal.

While many gems appreciate the robust blocking that Opal provides, some members of the Opal community use Apple’s Screentime in parallel.

This method is absolutely fine!  Please make sure to un-check Opal from your App Limits so that Opal is not blocked in any case.

The downside of Screentime is that you can easily bypass Screentime limit with a tap. If you are looking to add more friction, use our own Shortcuts Integration to prevent app opens rather than Screentime’s App Limits.

Our shortcut integration is impossible to bypass while Opal is blocking, whereas App Limits can be bypassed with a few simple taps.
